Dear Instructors for Vancouver and area,
It was a delight yesterday to meet a young enterpreneur with a pickleball idea described below.Five other groups have expressed similar ambitions to start a private club, but none have yet made it happen. Perhaps you might help him achieve his dreams having spent 10 years working in Rec centers in Vancouver and seeing the growth of our sport. Four new locations this month indoor and many new outdoor locations and court additions throughout the province.South Surrey will go to 40 courts next year and over 100 players per day. Wow ! This is the result of many years of continuous teaching. I notice that little false creek rec center will not offer teaching ( this center was courted several years ago due to its traffic and adjacent tennis courts ) as a training ground , sending those who come to learn – back to their respective communities. This could only work with teaching provided and follow- up from False Creek. It works.( A tripod at the front door would do ) .
I was very pleased to see the lovely turnout at the Roundhouse, with a 3 yr old, 4 yr old and 5 yr old playing against the wall – and so many add – on instructors present – good to see you all . Keep up the good work -Vancouver is filling up nicely due to your outstanding efforts ! Bc Pickleball assoc is pleased to now exceed 360 programs and moving rapidly to 400. If you have not seen me recently, this might be a reason. I do, however, enjoy being invited to and playing with your favorite neighbourhood program. Marpole is next on my bucket list as they seem to need players ( go figure ) . Do you have any to spare who live in their area?
New dedicated and shared outdoor courts will be added next year to South Surrey, White Rock Coquitlam, Comox , Oliver , Prince George, Quesnel,
Parksville.and North Surrey. Many were added in this year.including Cranbrook home of next year’s seniors games. It is hoped Vancouver will follow suit. BC pickleball has recommended a north/ south Approach starting with Oak and 70th , down to David Lam park expanding Queen e on the way.
Finally, BC pickleball ( official for the province – 7 yrs running.) has a new medical director who will look at and research injuries incurred on the courts with a
view to reducing same. He is Raphael Kim , recent graduate from University of Bejing ( in Mandarin ) . He is korean , and is in Montreal challenging the Canadian
exams in French. His English is superb, his Korean excellent . His research skills par none. We are blessed!
One of our sponsors – Kintek sports ( 9 locations in the lower mainland) indicates they would like to be more involved with pickleball activities. So we are going to include them in our teaching program in the schools as well as perhaps prizes donated for tournaments . So if you see an opportunity please let me know. …..
Best Wishes for a Happy and Joyous holiday time
